A National Park in Everyone's Back Yard

The C&O Canal National Historical Park is probably 30 minutes or less away from anyone in the D.C. Metropolitan area. It is historic, with structures dating back to the 1820's, including the canal itself. It winds through wilderness, never far from its source of water, the Potomac River. It's like a neighborhood park with exceptional sights and experiences to be had. A grand treasure indeed.

These Galleries mostly show the park around Great Falls and Mather Gorge, my favorite area, but there are cool surprises up- and down-canal from there.
